The Clever Monkey and the Crocodile
Enjoy a delightful Panchatantra tale about a clever monkey, a tricky crocodile, and the importance of honesty
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a clever monkey. This monkey loved to eat ripe, juicy, and delicious mangoes that grew on a tall tree just across the river.
Now, on the riverbank, there was a crocodile who had a wife. His wife had heard of the monkey's tales of delicious mangoes. She told her husband, "I wish I could eat those mangoes. They sound so sweet and tasty."
The crocodile decided to make his wife happy and thought of a plan. He swam to the middle of the river, where the clever monkey was sitting and eating mangoes.
The crocodile said, "Oh, dear monkey, you are my friend. My wife is sick, and she wants to meet you. She wishes to taste your heart, as she believes it's the sweetest of all."
The monkey was a clever one. He thought for a moment and said, "Of course, dear crocodile, I'd be honored to help your wife. But I left my heart on the tree. If you can take me there, I'll give it to you."
The crocodile agreed and swam back to the riverbank. He brought the monkey on his back and started swimming towards the mango tree. As they reached the middle of the river, the monkey realized the crocodile's plan.
With a sly grin, he said, "Oh dear crocodile, I forgot something important. My heart is not on the tree, but back on the riverbank. Please take me back."
The crocodile felt tricked but had no choice. He swam back to the riverbank, and the clever monkey jumped to safety.
The monkey said, "Thank you, my friend. You tried to help your wife, and I'm grateful for that. But remember, it's always better to tell the truth and not harm others."
The crocodile understood the importance of honesty and returned to his wife, and the clever monkey continued to enjoy his delicious mangoes.
And so, the monkey's wisdom saved him from the crocodile's plan.
